killer instinct

Have you been reading or hearing all the stories about the killer whale, Tillikum, killing the trainer in Orlando? I’ve never been to Sea World in Orlando, but the pictures you see are some of the killer whale Alyson and I saw at the Miami Seaquarium this past year. (I happen to think I did a good job taking pictures with my camera phone!)

They irony of all the news media, is that it seems that most people have forgotten that Killer Whales are carnivores! So why are we so shocked when they do what they were born to do – eat or attempt to eat meat? I’m horribly saddened that someone died, or in this case that three people have been killed by this killer whale. In no way is this the victim’s fault. But it makes me wonder what it would be like to be something that is forced to become a puppet of sorts.

So, I’ve been thinking lately what it would be like to be something held in captivity. I’ve had a hard time trying to picture myself as a 12,000 pound whale, but I can imagine if I was forced to live in a fish tank at some point I would snap. Oh wait a minute, pastors do live in a fish bowl!!!! Uh oh…

  5. You forgot. We saw Shamu the whale when we went to Florida. I agree. Captivity is a cruel thing and yet we as humans are in bondage or held captive to lots of things in our lives and we rather stay there than to let go and let God free us.
