JOBLESS!
Alyson and I have dealt with some major changes in our life lately. On January 11, 2010 I resigned my position of Senior Pastor at Valley View Baptist Church here in Nashville Tennessee. This was a decision that we made after receiving much council from amazing Godly men and women and after much prayer with Jesus. Valley View will always be in our hearts and we pray that truly their best days are ahead of them as they seek to minister to the community of East Nashville.
In the meantime, I need a job. I’ve got to make some money. I’ve applied for several positions recently in Nashville and out. As we pray through the direction that God is calling us, we believe without a doubt that God is calling us to remain in the ministry and pastor a church. We are now trusting God to open and close the doors that need to be opened and closed for this vision to take place.
Please keep us in your prayers during this time. It is scary, yet we both have an undeniable peace about everything. We believe with all our hearts that God is truly in control, and sovereign of not only this situation but also every other. Thank you all for your friendship, encouragement, support, and humor as we authentically pursue Christ together.

Praying for you man as you seek the next step! I’m sure it is a hard time, but God will reveal it all, more than likely when you least expect it.
wow. what a journey youre on.
praying now, matthew.
do you wanta stay in nashville?
we definitely feel called to nashville, but we are open to praying through any opportunities… you know of anything?
Good luck Matthew! Live you dreams and don’t settle for anything that comes along. You’re best days are ahead!
Matt, we are in constant prayer for you and Alyson and what is next for you both. The Lord Has great things ahead for you, keep praying as we for God’s answer.
winnie, we love you and eddie. thank you for supporting us. it is a blessing to be walking with you all in this.
Getting to the Promised Land is often full of waterless wells. Trust the Rock!
I just made that up…pretty good, huh?
Seriously, praying for you and knowing God has much good to come.
If I had a job on my team I’d hire you.
you are hilarious, but what you said is true. and from the bottom of my heart, i am humbled at the thought you would hire me. thank you friend.
I will be keeping you in my prayers. I totally relate to being where you are at as I am there. My blog is called The Great Faith Adventure for a reason
(our friend Allan Hall gave me the idea for the name) And I know I never told you, but back in October of 2003 I got fired from my teaching position at one of the jails in Dallas for sharing my faith. I have been underemployed/unemployed these past 6 years and 3 months. But I have done what God has put in front of me and my faith and trust in Him have grown. I am in a spot again on this faith adventure where I don’t exactly know how all my bills are getting paid. I lost my adjunct position at Navarro College, but still have the other one and this other part time job. I don’t get paid from the college til the end of February (last check was in December – not enough to cover 2 months). So I am praying for God’s provisions and a job that will work with what I am doing while also applying for full time positions at colleges (I really want to end up as a college counselor). So you and Alyson are in my prayers and I will keep my eyes open for you as well. I love helping people on their job searches.
Keeping you and Alyson in our prayers throughout this journey.
As I sought for words to say, the words from someone who loves you more than I told me to tell you this… Before you were born, I knew what every single one of your days was going to look like (Psalms 139:16). Remember, I am your “refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble (Psalms 46:1) Do not be afraid, for I am your God, I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 42:10) I will give you everything you need. though you may stumble, you will not fall because I will uphold you with my hand (Psalms 37:23-24) Matthew trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understand. Seek him in all your ways and He will guide you on the right path (Proverbs 3:5-6) and when you give answer say. Those around me intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives (Genesis 50:19-13). From you Heavenly Father. Praying daily for you.
