DEBATE!
I’m watching the debate tonight with my parents and Alyson. We got started late on our watching since we decided to go to dinner at such a late time. One of the reasons I’m most excited to watch tonight is because I’m not fully dedicated to either side right now. Frankly, I’m pretty sick of watching both sides bad-mouth and put down each other. For crying out loud, what ever happened where people really wanted and hoped for the best for each other?
It seems like most of us have lost the ability to be diplomatic and loving about treating each other with the love and kindness that Christ taught us to live by. The problem is that it’s not just non-Christians. A majority of the rudeness, trash talking, lies and sneaky behavior is coming from people who call themselves leaders in the church. The biggest problem of all this, is that it is said to all be done in “good intentions” or “for the people.” In reality, it is Christians practicing their gift of gossip.
At least with the election debate, each candidate is facing each other face to face. Isn’t that how we are to talk about each other though, face to face? If I’m not mistaken, the Scriptures say that if two people have trouble with each other they are to go to one another personally (see Matthew 18). Anything other than that is sinful and wrong!
Whether we are for or against either candidate, I personally think this should be the only time individuals should be allowed to talk about each other’s flaws. The fact of the matter is we ALL have flaws. To act as though we don’t is flat out silly. To talk about other’s flaws behind their backs is childish and immature.
I do hope that whatever the final outcome of the race is, that individuals can be tactful about the winner. Nothing is worse than sore losers, and nothing looks sillier than people protesting things they can’t change for another four years. That’s why we all need to research whose running and vote! Let’s get the right person in there… and the right person will be the one who wins the election. ☺ Praise God He is sovereign!
